§ 01

What is the difference between gross and net salary?

+

Gross salary: This is the total amount you have agreed upon with your employer and which is officially written in your employment contract - before any amounts are deducted for the state.

Net salary: This is the clear amount that actually enters your bank account or you receive by hand. It is calculated after subtracting your personal social security contributions (which total 13.78%) and income tax (which is 10%) from the gross amount.

§ 02

What social security contributions does the employer withhold for 2026?

+

For standard Category III labor, the amounts from the gross salary are divided as follows:

From your salary (withholdings for the employee):You owe a total of 13.78% of your gross remuneration. This includes contributions for State Social Security (8.38%), Supplementary Mandatory Pension Insurance (2.2%), and health insurance (3.2%).

From the company budget (at the employer's expense):The employer pays an additional 18.92% on top of your gross salary.

Due to these additional contributions, the total cost for the company to maintain your position is about 1.27 times higher than the gross salary stated in your contract.

§ 03

What is the minimum and maximum insurance income for the year 2026?

+

Minimum insurance income: For 2026, it is 620.20 € (with a minimum wage of 550.66 €). This is the lowest threshold amount upon which insurance contributions are mandatorily calculated and paid.

Maximum insurance income: The ceiling for the year is 2111.64 €. If your gross salary is higher than this amount, insurance contributions are withheld only on the threshold of 2111.64 €. For the difference above this limit, you do not owe insurance contributions, but only the flat tax of 10% is paid.

§ 04

Are food vouchers taxed?

+

No - amounts up to €102.26 per month are completely exempt from taxes and social security contributions. This is one of the easiest and most cost-effective ways for an employer to provide an additional bonus.

§ 05

Does the calculator take into account length of service pay?

+

Yes - the calculator fully accounts for this additional remuneration. The amount for length of service and professional experience (known as "class") is added directly to the base salary, thus forming the final gross amount upon which social security and taxes are calculated.

By law, the accrual is a minimum of 0.6% for each year of recognized service. In the calculator, this value is set by default, but you have full freedom to adjust it manually if a higher percentage has been agreed upon in your company or collective labor agreement.

§ 06

Can I calculate from net to gross?

+

Yes - simply switch the mode at the top. This is very useful when you are negotiating with an employer and want to agree on an exact net amount in hand.

§ 07

The result is it binding?

+

The calculator calculates accurately according to the 2026 rules, but serves only as a guide and does not replace advice from a professional. For specific questions - book a free consultation with an accountant.
